Why boats are hard to get rid of in Polk County

A fiberglass hull is not yard debris and it is not scrap metal. Marion County’s transfer stations accept boats only in pieces, and most charge by weight once you get there. Oregon also requires that titled boats be properly dispositioned with the Oregon State Marine Board, and abandoned or derelict vessels are a growing enforcement problem on the Willamette and its sloughs, so dumping is not an option even for the person who wants to look the other way. The result is that hundreds of boats across Dallas, Monmouth, Independence, and rural Polk County simply never leave the property.

How our boat removal works

We handle three situations differently:

• Boat on a working trailer. The easiest case. If the tires hold air and the hitch is intact, we tow it out and dispose of the hull and trailer separately: aluminum and steel go to scrap, fiberglass goes to the transfer station in sections.
• Boat on a dead trailer or no trailer. We cut the hull down on site into pieces the trailer can carry, strip any motor, fuel tank, battery, and electronics for proper disposal, and haul the rest. This is the most common Dallas job.
• Aluminum fishing boats and canoes. These are light enough to load whole and are almost pure scrap value, so pricing is usually at the low end.

Fuel, oil, batteries, and old flares are pulled first and taken to the Marion County hazardous waste facility rather than mixed in with the hull. If the boat still has a title, we will walk you through the Marine Board’s disposal notification so it is off your name.

• 14–18 ft fiberglass boat, cut and hauled: $450–$750 depending on hull thickness and whether there is a motor.
• Larger cabin boats, or boat plus trailer plus a pile of gear: quoted on site, usually one to two full loads.
• Utility or travel trailers: $225–$550 depending on size; steel frames have scrap value that offsets the price.
