How we tear down a hot tub

Hot tubs don’t fit through doors and can’t be dumped whole. Here’s the process we use to get them gone — cleanly and safely.

1

Drain the water

We drain into a grass area, gravel bed, or down your sewer cleanout — whichever you prefer. Roughly 300–500 gallons on most tubs.

2

Disconnect power & plumbing

We kill the breaker, cap off gas or plumbing lines (if present), and disconnect the 220V wiring so it's safe to cut.

3

Remove the cover and skirting

Hard covers get pulled off; the outer wood or plastic panels come off next so we can access the shell.

4

Cut down the shell

Fiberglass or acrylic shells get cut into manageable pieces with reciprocating saws so they can clear doorways and fit on the trailer.

5

Haul it all away

Shell, motor, pumps, insulation, cover — everything loaded in our trailer. We sweep the pad clean before we leave.

What affects your hot tub removal price

Typical range

$450 – $750 for most standard 6–8 person spas. Small 2–3 person tubs can land lower; swim spas run higher.

What bumps it up

Limited access (no gate, stairs up from the yard, second-story deck), surrounding deck that needs demo, or a concrete pad that needs breaking out.

What keeps it low

Ground-level tub, easy gate access, already drained and disconnected, and no deck demo needed.

Always included

Labor, saw blades, disposal fees, hauling, and sweep-up. You pay nothing extra at the dump. See full pricing.

Hot Tub & Spa Removal for Salem, Keizer & the Willamette Valley

An old hot tub or spa takes up prime yard space and quietly breaks down over the years — leaking seals, cracked plumbing, growing moss in the cover, rotting skirt panels. When you’re ready to get it out of your yard, EZ Junk & Hauling is the Salem crew that shows up with the tools, the insurance, and the know-how to do it right.

We handle every part of the job. Draining (we help you pick the safest spot), disconnecting 220V wiring, capping gas or plumbing if applicable, removing the cover and outer panels, cutting the shell into truck-size pieces with a reciprocating saw, and loading everything on our trailer. If your tub is sitting on a wooden deck that needs to come down too, or a concrete pad you want broken up — just let us know; we do demolition work alongside the removal.

Responsible disposal. Hot tub shells are fiberglass and acrylic composites — they don’t recycle like metal does, but we separate out what we can (copper plumbing, steel frames, motor components) and take the rest to the Marion County transfer station for proper disposal. For working tubs, we occasionally help match them with buyers or local donation spots before dismantling, so if your spa still runs, tell us.

Upfront pricing, no surprise fees. Most hot tub removals run between $450 and $750, depending on access and size. We always give a firm quote in person before we start cutting anything. Check our pricing page for volume breakdowns or our full residential junk removal service for related jobs.

Call or text 971-226-7435 — send us a few photos of the tub and its surroundings, and we’ll get you a ballpark within the hour.

Hot tub recycling notes: Hot tubs are cut apart on site so we can separate wood, shell, metal, and foam for proper disposal. For specialty material questions, see the Oregon Metro A to Z recycling guide or Marion County Environmental Services.

Hot tub removal — straight answers

Do I need to drain the hot tub before you arrive?

Not required, but it saves time (and sometimes money) if you do. If you'd rather we handle it, we will — just let us know where you'd like the water to go.

Will you disconnect the electrical?

Yes. We flip the breaker, cap the 220V wiring, and make sure everything is safe before we start cutting. If there's a sub-panel, we'll leave it untouched unless you want it removed too.

Can you also tear out the deck around it?

Absolutely. Wooden decks, lattice skirting, pergolas — we'll demo whatever's in the way and haul it off with the tub.

What about the concrete pad underneath?

We can break out and haul concrete pads for an additional fee, depending on size and thickness. Let us know during the quote.

How long does it take?

Most hot tub removals take 4–6 hours start to finish. Swim spas or larger installations can take a full day.

Is the hot tub going to the landfill?

The shell typically does because hot tub composites aren't recyclable, but we separate out the metal and copper components for recycling first.
